This is a review specifically for the property management arm of the company. Currently, I am a owner and resident at the 1xxxx Sherman Way property (Van Nuys) location. Serrano Development Group (SDG) operates as the HoA property management company, for this property. SDG also operates as the property management company at 13941 Sherman Way (Van Nuys) and 2864 Sunset Place (K-town).Serrano Development Group is owned and operated by Daniel Mahoney and Jason Tolleson. They are also owners of Pacific Empire Builders and Serrano Asset Management. Between having a families, building related development group, running the property management company, they have also run as HoA members (and one of them is President) on 3 different apartment buildings. As a resident of one of the properties, I am extremely unsatisfied, unhappy and baffled by their service and their attitude towards the current resident owners in my building. Listing of their failings for their HoA property management that warrant this review:* Failing to send the required documentations to their residents.* Failing to communicate adequately to their resident and absentee owners.* Below par service from the property management. Building upkeep and building review is minimal, despite the claim that they are “actively”” managing the property.* Charging exorbitant HoA monthly fees ($370+) when the comparable rate in the area is low $200s.* Continuously charging special assessment fees to replenish a fund when the extra fees are being used to pay for their own expensive services. * Unwilling to discuss or work out any issues with their resident owners.* Renting out their owned and managed properties without review or consideration to the current resident home owners. * Utilizing their lawyer
Robert D. Hillshafer of Loewenthal
from Hillshafer & Carter
to pressure their residents whenever issues arises. And most importantly:* As HoA board members
unwilling to review and allow competitive bids for property management and instead hiring their own company to manage their own company. This reeks breach of of fiduciary duty to their HoA responsibility as they continue to hire their owned property company at an unconscionable rate.Jason Tolleson and Daniel Mahoney (owners of those buildings)
