bobbys classic cars bobbys car care false advertising, false statements ripoff dickson Tennessee!!. I am just now writing this letter because it has taken me this long to get this u201cNO RUST, DRIVES GREATu201d car to a shape that I would be comfortable driving. On April 12, 2019 my wife and I purchased a 1969 VW Beetle from Bobby at Bobbyu2019s Classic Cars in Dickson Tennessee. The car was advertised on his website as a u201cNO Rust, recently restored 1969 VW Convertible Beetleu201d. We drove to his show room to look at the vehicle. Please keep in mind that I am your typical consumer and not a mechanic. During our brief inspection, I noticed some rust at the bottom of the shock towers and Bobbyu2019s response was u201cthe car was sitting on dirt for a couple of years so that is probably how it rusted thereu201d. I took a ride and told him the car and it shook. His answer was u201cthe tires are probably flat spottedu201d. I also noticed that the shifting was real sloppy. His answer was u201cthatu2019s the way they shift. You are used to the new carsu201d. When we returned to the show room I asked him to look at all the lights as I wanted to make sure they all worked. In retrospect, I should have gotten out to look at them. I turned on the parking and regular lights, blinkers, brake lights and reverse lights and was told by him u201cyep, everything worksu201d. My wife and I made him an offer and he accepted it. We knew it was an u201cAS ISu201d Vehicle and asked him how he would handle it if we got on the highway and it broke down on the way home. He said u201cYou will be just fine. I have been selling cars for a long time and I donu2019t sell bad cars because I have a reputation to keep. If I got a bad reputation I would be out of businessu201d. We completed the deal and left his showroom with the car. As we got close to our home (Chattanooga) the car started to sputter and not run well. I called Bobby to tell him the car just quit in my driveway. He said u201cit was probably the fuel filter because I noticed it was real dirty.u201d I told him I would get a new one and let him know. I picked up a new fuel filter, installed it but it still sputtered. Upon calling Bobby he said it was probably because the car had not been driven for 9 months. The next time I had a chance to start the car was a week later and it was very had to start. We have a friend in the car business that directed us to one of her contacts that worked on Air Cooled Beetles. We made arrangements to drive it down and have him look at it. We started out and the car really ran rough all the way for about 3 blocks then the dash started smoking!!! I looked under the dash and noticed that the wiring harass was now melted. I immediately called Bobby and his statement was u201cI donu2019t know where you stored it but Iu2019m sure some rats got up in the dash and ate the wiresu201d. I said u201cNO rats are in my garage and I told you it didnu2019t run when I got it homeu201d. He told me u201cyou bought it as is and it is not my problemu201d. We had it towed to the mechanic and found out that the coil wire was barely connected and had shorted out. We got it fixed and drove it home. After inspecting the work performed I thought it best I look over all the lighting. I found that every time I turned on the headlights a fuse would blow. After about an hour of pulling off every light I found that the front driveru2019s side turn signal was wired incorrectly and could NOT have worked at the dealership! Someone had wired the hot wire to the chassis! That solved the blowing fuse issue but what about Bobby telling me u201cyep, everything worksu201d. I notice the brake pedal was squishy and not working like it should. I put brake fluid in the reservoir and low and behold it started leaking under the car. Do you think that is why the reservoir was u201calmost empty?u201d Thatu2019s when I started realizing I may have been sold a car that was advertised as one thing and that was not entirely accurate. I wanted to get the car to pretty good shape so I could at least drive it and feel comfortable when my wife drove it so I purchased new replacement cosmetic parts and tried to forget the, in my opinion, deceptive way my wife and I were treated. UNTILu2026u2026.(the truth was going to be discovered soon). After buying many parts for the car, I got to discussing the caru2019s condition with the person I was buying the parts from. He had over 30 years of working on air-cooled VWs and told me to bring it down and he would inspect it completely and fix any issues. I was happy about it and towed the car to him. That is when the nightmare started. On May 31, 2019 he, Gary Clackson, looked over the car while I was there and told me the carburetor was not the correct one for that engine and the fuel pump was also incorrect. He asked if I could leave it with him and he would look at it from bumper to bumper. The next several days were filled with u201cyou need new ball joints, brakes, the brake relief valve was missing, it needed new shocks, brake pads, brake adjusters, tie rods, wheel bearings, and then the cherry on the topu2026u2026..a new front end. I have attached photos of the cross member that is totally rusted out! What happened to the u201cNO RUSTu201d in his ad? Rust this bad doesnu2019t happen in 7 years and that is the same car he told me had a frame off restoration. I have photos In conclusion, I have spent over $2700.00 in NECESSARY fixes to this u201cNO RUST, DRIVES GREATu201d car. The one that had a frame off restoration 7 years ago! The mechanic told me I could have been killed when I drove it home from his showroom. The mechanic is willing to sign an affidavit to the status the vehicle was in when I brought it to him and I will sign an affidavit to the condition it was in when I bought it. The two are the same! This person should be allowed to conduct business in this manner. He risked my life with the car he sold me and did not truthfully represent the car in the sale. I canu2019t find one thing he said to be the truth other than not it was a 1969 Beetle. In my humble opinion, this man should not be selling cars to anyone! Advertising u201cNO RUSTu201d translates to u201cI didnu2019t check it and donu2019t care. I just want to sell it and make money on somebodyu201d. It is astounding that a car dealer does not have any duty to at least look over the cars he sells? Does Tennessee give a dealeru2019s license to anyone and they do not have to have any responsibility for what they sell? I will be contacting any jurisdiction and government agency I can to try and prevent this person from selling any dangerous vehicle to anyone else. I know I bought the car as is but I, as a consumer, must be able to have some trust in the car dealers in Tennessee to at least check the cars they sell for a minimum safety level. I would expect Bobbyu2019s Care Care/ Bobbyu2019s Classic Cars to reimburse me for the $2700.00 of minimum work perform just get the car to be able to be driven safely. I am prepared to present a copy of the repair bill.
