I had an A/C-Heating unit that needed to be checked. I called Air America and was told by the technician that there was a small pin hole in a copper tube that needed to be soldered. He charged me $59.00 for service call, $100.00 to solder the tube, and it needed to be recharged. He charged $321.00 for the freon to recharge the unit. I called Spencer, the owner of the company who explained they had a flat charge of $321.00. I reminded him that freon currently only cost less than $80.00 for a 25 lb can. He put 14.5 lbs of freon in my unit which cost them around $45.00. I told him I thought close to ten times the amount of his cost was a ripoff. He reiterated that that was his charge, and he charged the same flat fee for 7lb or 30lb. So if you don’t want to get ripped off for freon, don’t call Air America.
